Subsidy US$211-843! Malaysia launches Residential PV Subsidy Programme
Malaysia's Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced an incentive programme called the People's Solar Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS) to encourage the adoption of solar energy by residential energy consumers. The programme is open to all Malaysian citizens who have an account with The National Energy Berhad (TNB), as well as those who are applying for the NEM programme for the first time.
The SolaRIS scheme is based on the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme, whereby the government will provide a cash subsidy of between RM1,000 and RM4,000 (equivalent to US$211 to US$843)/kWAC to those who submit an application for installing a solar system to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (SEDA) on or after April 1, 2024.PETRA has provided an incentive for the NEMRakyat scheme has approved a quota of 350MW, with the submission window for subsidy applications open from 1 April 2024 to 31 December 2024 (or until the quota is exhausted) and the solar system has to be commissioned by 31 March 2025.
Datuk SeriFadillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and head of PETRA, said, "With this resolution, the Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water Transformation (PETRA) is confident that SolaRIS will be able to attract more domestic customers to participate in and enjoy the benefits of having a residential solar energy systems, further contributing to the energy transition aspirations as well as our country's 2050 carbon neutrality target."
