Germany Plans to Increase Solar Photovoltaic Installed Capacity to 150GW by 2030

2021-06-02

According to a draft law, the German government plans to accelerate the development of wind and solar energy, as part of its climate protection plan.

The draft law indicates that Germany's plan is to raise the onshore wind energy installed capacity from the previous goal of 71GW to 95GW by 2030, and to increase the solar energy installed capacity from 100GW to 150GW.

Furthermore, the German government also plans to provide approximately 7.8 billion euros (9.5 billion USD) in funding for its climate protection plan next year, of which 2.5 billion euros will b

3e used for building renovation, and 1.8 billion euros will be allocated for electric vehicle purchase subsidies. Under this plan, the German government will also strongly support industry transition processes, such as in steel or cement production, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. However, these fiscal expenditure commitments will require approval after the federal elections in September.

Earlier this month, the German cabinet approved a new Climate Protection Law, setting more ambitious emission reduction targets, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 and reduce Germany's carbon emissions by 65% from 1990 levels by 2030—higher than the previous 55% reduction target.

Data shows that in 2020, Germany had an onshore wind power installed capacity of 54.4GW and a solar energy installed capacity of 52GW.
